Example
1: A talented amateur Rally driver who was
beginning to do well at national level but wanting to
break onto the international scene sought the help of
the sport psychologist. He wanted to improve his mental
skills; in particular he felt that building confidence
and self-belief were necessary if he was to progress.
He had also developed a slight “phobia”
of a specific stage on a major rally course where he
had previously crashed and wanted to overcome this difficulty.
Example
3: A female cyclist preparing for the 2008
RAAM (Race Across America). The cyclist was half of
a two-person team (JSNT) who completed the relay race
in 8 days 17hrs 58 mins. Prior to the race there was
a lengthy consultation to look at details of the rider’s
own specific Game Plan and psychological techniques
to be employed at various stages of the race. (see
