Case
1: A coach consulted the Sport Psychologist
with a problem that had brought his coaching work
to a halt and was having a severe effect upon his
mental health and well-being. He explained that six
months previously he had been accused of sexually
harassing a teenage member of the group he coached.
Although the girl had later confessed to fabricating
the story, had sent him a written apology and the
coach had been completely exonerated, he was still
finding the entire episode highly distressing and
was suffering symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
These included flashbacks to having been arrested
in his home and in front of his family and then being
escorted from the house by uniformed police. He had
received some help from an NHS Clinical Psychologist
and made some significant progress, however this input
was time limited and he then sought further sessions
of counselling/ therapy with the aim of recovering
his coaching career.
